AN INDIAN MINIATURE PAINTING DEPICTING A ROYAL HUNTING SCENE
Datia, India, Ca. 19th century AD. A painting in gouache and gold on paper, depicting a dynamic royal hunting scene set against a lush green landscape. The central figure, a nobleman or prince, is mounted on a galloping red stallion, adorned with an elaborately decorated saddle. A falcon perches on his raised hand, signifying the noble sport of falconry. Accompanied by attendants, one on foot holding a sword and another mounted behind him, the scene is animated with deer, a black boar, and hounds in pursuit. The finely detailed foliage and hills in the background contrast against the deep blue sky. The painting is framed by a floral border with red and blue ornamentation.Size: 270mm x 205mm; Weight: 20gProvenance: Previous property of a UK based Islamic art professional.
